Why Poly Network Asked A Hacker To Be Its Chief Security Adviser

The saga of the Poly network continues and has taken another unexpected turn. In the official mail, the team behind the project offered a hacker, also known as “Mr. White hat,” a position at the network as its Chief Security Adviser.

As Bitcoinist reported, Mr White hat was responsible for launching “the biggest hack in Defi” after stealing more than $ 600 million from the Poly network. This multi-chain platform has a product that allows users to interact with various blockchains such as Ethereum, Binance smart chain, Polygon and others.

According to Mr White Hat himself, Poly carried out the attack to “save money” on its network and draw attention to the critical vulnerability. A hacker discovered that alerting the team over a traditional communication channel could create incentives for a third party to plan an internal attack.

He denied his aggressive motivation was modest. The hacker, who said they remained in touch with Mr White hat, unexpectedly agreed to return the stolen funds to an address with multiple signatures, Poly network confirmed.

The team expects only private keys” to give users full control of assets.” Taking longer than expected, hackers still seem worried about network security.

Poly Network claims they are “working with organisations” to improve security. Thus, they will provide users with a “reliable and secure system fully prepared” for recovery and upgrade.

However, they believe the funds must be repaid so the network can continue to operate normally. So they’re ready to include Mr. White Hat in their plan.:

( … ) to express our gratitude and encourage Mr. White Hat to contribute to improving security in the blockchain world together with Poly Network, We warmly invite Mr. White Hat to become Poly Network’s Chief Security Advisor.
