Global charity launches crypto vouchers for vulnerable populations in Kenya, Ecuador

Global charity CARE has created coupons based on cryptocurrencies to be distributed to women and individual groups in Africa and Latin America. According to care, these vouchers can be exchanged for goods, services or cash and depend on buyers ‘ needs.

However, in a statement announcing the start of the pilot phase, the NGO said only groups in Kenya and Ecuador would participate. In Kenya, vouchers are sent to “rural savings and loan associations” that deal with the economic effects of COVID-19. In Ecuador, crypto vouchers are distributed to survivors or to women who are threatened by gender-based violence.”

The project was launched in collaboration with crypto organizations
Commenting on the coupon launch, Christian Pennotti, senior director of Sunday-focused approaches in care:

We are excited to work with Celo and Emerging Impact in Ecuador and the Binance Blockchain charitable foundation in Kenya to test new ways in which these technologies can help people deal with crises.

In addition to working with well-established crypto organizations, the resort, the container fintech Laboratory (LIFT), as noted in a separate agreement with developing countries to assist blockchain technology as a viable and effective option will inform the development of a rigorous experimental evaluation.”The NGO also reports that pilot projects in Kenya and Ecuador will conduct focus groups to learn more about trust, information barriers, the use of stable coins and their capabilities.”

While the concern says it is aware of the risks that could be associated with cryptocurrencies, the NGO insists its interest will be limited by the potential of the technology.
