Finland seeks brokers to sell seized bitcoins worth $ 80m

The Finnish Customs Administration is looking for brokers to sell 1,981 bitcoins seized in drug cases. The coins are currently worth about $ 80 million.

Finland’s Customs Administration announced on Thursday it was looking for agents to sell 1981 bitcoins seized in drug crimes, and Bloomberg noted that the coins should be confiscated by court order to the state.
At the time of writing, the cache with bitcoins was worth $ 78.75 million.
Most of the seized money was collected during the 2018 raids. In the same year, the Finnish Treasury developed rules for handling crypto assets. It banned officials from storing cryptocurrencies on exchanges and allowed them to keep the coins offline.
Pekka Pilkkanen, Financial Management Director of the Finnish Customs Authority, explained that authorities want a permanent solution for the “safe and reliable” sale of cryptocurrencies confiscated from the state treasury in the future. Customs authority defined in the declaration:

The main goal of Finnish Customs is to ensure the safe sale of cryptocurrencies by preventing further money laundering and criminal activity.

Finnish Customs said it could sign a deal with three brokers to sell seized bitcoins, the publication said, adding that the agency was expecting “new cryptocurrencies.”
