EBay Explores Ways to Enter the NFT Market: CEO

According to CEO Jamie Iannone, EBay is exploring its options regarding cryptocurrency payments and NFTs. Iannone, who took over EBay last year, made the news on an episode of CNBC's Squawk Box this morning. (The price of eBay shares hit hard last week and fell 10% in one day – Iannone was mainly there to relieve shareholders.) "We're expanding the types of payments we accept," he says. Before adding that the company plans to "continue looking for other options like cryptocurrencies", pointing to unencrypted payment platforms such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. He also said that eBay is also dealing with the NFT market. “We're looking at this and exploring the possibilities of making this possible on eBay in a simple way,” he said without any liability. NFTs are immutable tokens that can be used to prove ownership of digital assets. According to DappRadar, they generated more than $ 1.5 billion in sales in the first quarter of the year and became particularly popular in digital art and collectibles. Since NFT's EBay is no stranger to the must-have discovery of blockchain-based payment systems, classic internet memes that have found new life are as follows: The company was affiliated with Facebook's blockchain project Diem (formerly called “ Libra ''), but 2019 ' also left. It has been considering adding Bitcoin and other cryptos as payment options to its platform since at least 2014. Currently, there are no concrete facts plans on how exactly crypto can be incorporated into the platform.
