Police in Australia’s State of Victoria have arrested more than 8.5 million Australian dollars ($6 million) as part of an investigation into online drug trafficking.
The total amount is the largest cryptocurrency withdrawal in Australian history, according to a Victoria police report.
Police have arrested two men and a woman in connection with the investigation and seized two properties, two vehicles and various drugs. The total value of the assets arrested is thought to be about 13.1 million Australian dollars (us $ 9.34 million).
The arrests and seizures relate to a nearly decade-long drug trafficking investigation on a dark web platform. The investigation is being led by Victoria’s Anti-Cybercrime department and the Anti-Crime Department.
Commander Mick Frewen, of the Victoria Police Crime Bureau, said the investigation showed the importance of adapting to crimes using modern technology.
“This is a remarkable result that highlights the modern nature of serious and organised crime.
